engine break in

I Put A New Cam In My Pickup AndFound My Radiator Leaking... Turns Out It Is ShoT. I put The Old Radiator Back In While I Wait For The NeW One To Show Up. I Fired Up My Pickup To Break It In And After About 5 Minutes My Radiator Was StEaming And Hissing So I Shut Her Down. Will This HurT The Engine For Break In? The Radiator Shop Hot Tanked It, But Could That Cause The Problem I Described? Don't Know Why My Phone Is Capitalizing Every First Letter Either...

Used radiators should always be rodded out when you take one in that was giving you problems. I know, no one likes to take a tank apart but you can soak/boil one till hell freezes over and you will never unclog the cooling ports.
If you didn't run it for long it should be ok. I'd retorque the intake though.

In regards to break-in, it's not an ideal situation but compared to overheating, it's a lot better! the important thing is to get her started and run for 20 minutes @ 2,000-2,500 rpm...since you got 5 minutes out of it I would not have any concerns about the cam or crank journals...IMHO what ever slight imperfections might exist on the cam lob will be relieved during the formal 20 minute breakin.

Who, Cam Research?

If you paid them to break it in, you shouldn't have to do anything but put it in the truck and drive.

Yes it was Cam Research. They told me to still go through the break in procedure but I suppose it is just extra insurance. Hopefully the new radiator gets here soon and there are no more problems... I want to get the baby on the road and try out that new cam!
