my upper radiator outlet broke off when we were removing the upper hose(plastic tank) . is there any way to repair this ? I was laid off and cant afford a new radiator right now. but with it being the outlet i dont hold much hope . JUST THOUGHT I would ask your sage advice. thanks, mike
The upper radiator connection is usually the inlet to the radiator, ie, the hot water coming from the engine. The only thing I can think of you might try is to get some abs plastic glue from Lowe's or Home Depot and try it. That is black plastic, right?
Clean the mating edges of the radiator and the outlet really well with come acetone and a rag or a toothbrush or something. Then put a generous amount on the edges of both and mate them together perfectly. Hold the thing together with your hands for about 10 minutes then tape it so it holds still. Also smear glue around the outside of the seam.
Go to a junk yard and get a radiator, much better idea. It will be about 10% the cost of a new one. I wouldn't trust the gluing to hold long with the engine torquing around and the radiator stationary. Also, the cooling system pressurizes when it gets hot and that could also just blow the repair apart or it will leak but your call.
I've never seen a repair hold. Your best bet is a J.Y. with a guarantee. The only thing I can think of is a two part epoxy, but make damn sure it is set up and dry before you put the radiator back in service.
thats what i thought ,the 5 junkyards I've contacted around here either dont have it or want $100-$130 for them 30 day warranty , new is 150-180 . oh well, thanks guys .
