weird fuel leak

Hey everyone i just bough a 2000 f350 powerstroke dually for a great $5000 and when i got it home i had it runningwile i was llooking aroun and i seem a drip coming from the drain tube for the fuel filter but when i looked the valve was fully closed....what i was wondering is if i bough a o-ring kit for the valve if that would stop the leak and if you think that might be hurting performance? Thanks a lot for looking guys

I had the same problem and it just kept getting worse. Changed mine to some new ones I believe they were a different material from a sponsor on the site and problem solved.

Not weird, pretty common. The oring kit for valve will fix it.

Mine started leaking after a fuel filter change. I sprayed the valve with silicone spray. Opened and closed it a few times, and I got lucky and it seals fine now. Can't hurt to try. Could be just a piece of dirt in the o ring.

Easy fix. Check out this link.
Fuel Bowl Parts and O-rings - 1999-2003 Ford 7.3L

You can buy a new valve, rebuild what you have, rebuild the entire bowl....whatever you please. Bob's site is an awesome collection of 7.3 specific parts.

I had other work to do that invloved removing tthe fuel bowl (no big deal). I threw a rebuild kit in there while it was out (really no big deal). I had no problems, it was just so inexpensive and easy that I did it for preventative measures.

What everybody already said about fixing the leak but to answer your second question, No. It will not effect any running issues with a slight leak.

Here is a video I made on it. I did my orings and that helped but did not fix my leak. I had a more rare problem, a cracked valve. I then replaced the valve.

I took the fuel bowl out, this is not necessary.

I had mine out a second time cause after rebuild I had a slight leak.
it was in a strange spot. even Guzzle though it weird. was the fuel heater plug that mounts to the back of the bowl

I messaged his site and he called me on a sat. what a guy. shipped that day.

ended up putting a slight film of dieletic grease to help it seal or slide.

if you go with just the drain you wont need to rebuild.

was just sharing what happened to me.

very straight fwd like others have said.

certainly dont hurt to rebuild if you want to learn about your fuel bowl i guess

Go ahead and overhaul the fuel bowl also while putting o-rings on the drain valve.
