I'm about to order some wheels and tires and am confused on exactly what to get. I have an 03 v10 with a bds 6" lift I'm looking to get some. 22" rockstars with some nitto mud grapplers but didn't realize there was so many options. I just have no clue when it comes to offset and back spacing. What is everyone running? What's the preferred/ideal combination? Anybody know of the best/cheapest place to order these from?
What size tire do you want to run? This plays a big factor in offset. If you don't go any larger than a 37x12.5 tire I would highly suggest a -12 offset if you plans are bigger than that then go -24 offset.
22"x9" rim w/4.5" backspacing = -12mm offset
22"x10" rim w/4.5 backspacing = -24mm offset
The goal is to determine where you want the tire to sit. right?
Those above don't match TIRE LOCATION.
These below match up tire location granted they HAVE THE SAME SIZE TIRE let's say 35x12.5 R22 for the examples below!
22"x9" rim w/4.5" backspacing = -12mm offset (Will stick out of fender 1/2inch)
22"x10" rim w/5" backspacing = -12mm offset (Will stick out of fender 1/2inch)
22"x9" rim w/4 backspacing = -24mm offset (Will stick out of fender 1 inch)
22"x10" rim w/4.5 backspacing = -24mm offset (Will stick out of fender 1 inch)
My point being is to use offset as a primary source of information and not backspace. The required backspace changes to keep the tire in the exact same location but the OFFSET WILL STAY THE SAME.
Remember offset tells you where the center of the rim is, and WHERE THE CENTER OF THE RIM IS WILL ALSO BE THE CENTER OR THE TIRE. This will NOT be true for the backspace as it will move the tires center half of the distance of what the width of the rim width change is.
(Example: if you add an inch in rim width then you also change the backspace by half an inch.)
I hope I explained it clearly enough. It can be hard to explain without showing it. Sorry if this comes across as a little dickish as that's not my intent but is to inform.
