Blade, they guy at work gave me a copy of what the ford tech gave him and it said that the FICM tested bad, once that was replaced, the the injectors would be re-evaluated. i missunderstood the guy at work. apparently they tested for cracked injector cups and they didn't see anything wrong with those, so the next thing was lift the heads and check those out.

I think you did the right thing. Someone is going to end up with this truck.
If they know maybe they can come out better on it.
Dirty Dealers should be exposed. They are like mushrooms and love the dark
put a spot light on them and they die.
Maybe this dealer will learn a lesson maybe not.

To me it looks like the previous owner Ran this truck into the GROUND and Sold it!!!

We all know that this 6.0L can go downhill fast if not Maintained on a Fairly strict schedule

I do have a Feeling this truck needed probably most that work but Not ALL
The Injectors are Definatly a 2000.00$$ BUST

#1 had Fuel in the Coolant so thats atleast 1 Head and Very High Chance its the Injector cups there problem is that they tested the Fuel rail after the truck had been Driven that day. I am thinking the truck got hot and the Inject cup seals when HOT and only leaks that first bit when its cold and warming up he Put 600 miles on it before he noticed

#2 Had bad cold starts
Well this^^ very common to be FICM

#3 the Injectors were Good once a New FICM was installed problem solved

#4 the Oil Cooler well that is a Common issue on these trucks Im shure the Coolant had never been changed or flushed Im thinking 51/49 chance it could go either way good or Bad with 51% going to the Bad side Due to previous owner neglect

#5 with the fuel in the Cooling system I think thats a Great Idea to change All the Hoses especialy if I just bought the truck I know if oil gets in there its Highly recomended Fuel is a Byproduct of Oil so

IDK how the shop came up with 10K BILL

Now the 10K Bill Seems High to me its almost like thtey took Each thing and Billed it out Like it was a Single Item Repair to hit the 10K Mark It does Happen though this isnt the First 10K bill I have seen and the Newer Diesels Get even Higher

They could have cut him some slack on the Bill everyone Tech & Shop would still have made money

I would Really Like to see the Seller get stuck Fixing this and they should as I am shure they made a WheelBarrow Full of Money on whatever Auto they sold the Guy that tradded it

All I see that happened is the seller found out the truck needed a Bunch of Work and they Increased the Price 1K I wonder if they have any intention of repairs

Maybe I should call them money tell them I love it and see if its Ready to Roll If all this barley went down I dont see they had enough time to fix it yet
i agree on the $10k thing. i added up all the numbers on the list that the ford tech gave my friend and it is only about $7k. that doesn't include oil cooler, egr cooler, other cooling system stuff, etc, but still.

SO they basicaly came to 7K for Heads & Gaskets a new FICM

Well how I look at it if someone was a DIYer and picked the truck up

Parts alone
Im coming in at around $5000.00 For all of it Give or Take and that includes Addressing all known Problematic parts for 2005+ Even though they are Good at this time

But a Thuro Bullet Proof on the Top end Including some After Market Mods for reliability

However in this case the sellar should address at a Minimum all parts that have failed

probably not. there was no mention of his dog spot in
the original post.

cal owned the late night commercials when i was growing
up... from wikipedia...

"Worthington's commercials were seen on every television channel
in Los Angeles throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, mostly
through saturation advertising during the overnight hours.
The commercials would be accompanied by a jingle set to the
tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It" with the lyrics re-written
to the refrain of "If you want a car or truck, go see Cal, if you want
to save a buck, go see Cal" or "Give a new car to your wife, she will
love you all her life", with "Go see Cal" repeated numerous times.
When the idea of a jingle was first pitched to him, it was conceptualized
as slow with a big roll up of drums; Worthington disagreed and felt the
song should be fast and wrote the lyrics and recorded the song
himself.[1] The jingle was successful. In the years following,
Worthington discovered that there were children who thought that
his name was "Go see Cal."

I've got a tale that will top that. When I bought my '06 I really didn't know what to look for specifically for problems with the 6.0. I found it on Cars.com and it looked great. I drove to Dallas and test drove the fool out of it for an hour. Everything worked and it ran great. It had a really hot tune and would smoke the tires at will.

I bought it As Is and paid $12K cash. Naturally less than an hour later on the way home the wrench light finally comes on. Oil cooler, head gaskets and a new head. They had done a really nice clean up job on the truck, put in new fluids and a new degas bottle. Dealer said they felt real bad and hung up. Also found out the 3 Day right to cancel a transaction law doesn't apply to cars in Texas.

I thought I knew pretty much what to look for in a used truck, but that was a valuable lesson. Good news is now I know what's going on under the hood with my 6.0. I love my truck, but it sure was a rough honeymoon.

wow, I haven't felt with this piticular dealer but I am glad to know about this type of situation, as for when I buy any used car before i Roll it off the lot (my 95 F150 was the exception as I didn't have my code reader yet but did know about the CEL light trick) I hook my code reader up and pull any codes if present, to at least give me any indication about the engine condition, granted it may not catch some things like this but it at least gives me a bargaining point to work with if any thing exists…

I feel sorry for the buyer of that truck and all they went through and I have heard some horror stories about used car places like he buy here and pay here lots. I also feel sorry for the truck as I am sure its a stout truck if properly cared for (just like any vehicle)...

So very rare for BOTH heads to be cracked. I did get the tool finally from BPD that supposably fixes it. I have an engine on a stand at the shop that needs it,, I will have a video of it.

However guys,, 2 heads and 8 injectors and total cooling system,, easily 10k at my shop. Prob more. But that would be studs n everything. Lisa's blew 10k by a BUNCH!!!

I reread my post and wanted to show some numbers so people don't think I'm raping people

Labor on studs. 2500
Heads. 2500
Injectors. 2000
Studs. 450
Hg's. 350
Oil cooler. 350
Radiator. 275
Hoses (All). approx. 250
Coolant. 90
Oil 90
Glow plugs n wires. 200
Tstat. 30
Turbo clean. 100
Rocker box gaskets. 60
Degas n cap. 80
Coolant pump. 150
Misc orings. approx. 45
Egr stuff. 350
Push tubes. 80

I can't think of much else,, what does that come to??? Remember we are an install facility so we have to charge tax on these parts (which I tried to estimate and include in the above prices). And shipping in tax free doesn't do anything because I'm selling to the end user,, so it's gotta be taxed.

However,, no way are BOTH heads and all 8 injectors bad.
