Stand Pipe Passenger Side Removal/Install ??

The stand pipe was way over torqued based on the other stand pipe on driver side and the dummy plugs. Used 1/2" breaker bar I use on 5th wheel lug nuts (130 ft lbs) and it was harder to break loose than those lugs nuts. Then when I unscrewed the stand pipe, the top half came out and not the bottom half. Tried again several more times, including using the top half of the driver side stand pipe. No luck with any normal attempts on getting the lower half removed. Does the normal install and removal process call for the lower half to be installed first and then slide in the top half, with the bolt down process pressing the two parts together with a proper sealing of the two halves. AC box is in the way or can it be removed, doesn't look like a fun thing to do.

I used a narrow beveled blade that comes to a point and hacksaw teeth on one side of the bevel, pushed it in and it grabbed the inside of the lower shaft of the pipe, and and twisting in circle and pulling the blade with lower pipe attached it came out. Need some type of tool that would go inside the shaft, with a **** on top that would expand the inside of a plastic shaft and create enough pressure to pull the lower part out. Maybe there is one, I sure could of used it today.

I just used a piece of steel wire that is used to hold fiberglass insulation in floor joists and bent the end to just past 90degrees and then cut the bent piece just short enough to fit though the tube . You insert it and pull the tube out worked real easy. I used a pair of diagonal cutters to grip the wire and lever it of the oil rail, worked very good.

You could just pull your oil rail out then you can just grab it with needle nose pliers. I would rather do that than stick anything down inside my motor that could break off or drop metal shavings!!! If that happens then its tear down time :-(

Thanks for responses. Never considered removing the oil rail. It would have been great to find a clear posting in the tech folder about removing standpipes or dummy plugs and some of the pitfalls that happen and some suggested tips to overcome them. At least that would have given some info. This is a first for me doing standpipes. The process is easy, only when everything happens perfectly.

I would still like feedback on installation question on the passenger side in my orig post. No one has replied about splitting the standpipe and installing the lower half and then putting in the top piece. AC is definitely in the way for a one piece install, so split option seems to be only logical install technique.

No you want to do the updated one piece standpipes. It doesn't take long to remove the hvac box w/o evacuating the ac system. Take your glove box out three screws then there is six nuts against the fire wall three on bottom and three on top (you have to look they are there) then just pull the hvac box forward and presto you can put your new standpipes in.

For the passenger side just unbolt the oil rail and lift it slightly until you get the angle you need to sneak the stand pipe in then set it back down on the injectors.

The updated standpipes are still a 2-piece design. The update being the addition of a white plastic or teflon ring. Standpipe still separates like the original design.

I am not aware of any 1-piece design.

I got a little time today to work on truck. Unbolted the Oil Rail and lifted enough to slide in standpipe. On this standpipe the Teflon white split washer was real loose (3/16" +/_). Pack it with petro jelly to keep it as tight as I could before sliding it in. Everything seemed to go together fine. Hope no future problem. Everything on this truck is way more time consuming than it should be. A real trick on the bottom 2 t30 bolts, my solution was a t30 from a screwdriver set of bits and a 1/4" box end ratchet wrench. Worked well but still very time consuming. Looking up torque specs for those T30 bolts, will try tech folder. So tomorrow verify and torque everything and put the cover back on.
