So I am also getting ready to do a DP upgrade:
I have a couple of questions.
1. Is it a hard thing to do since there really isn't any space in there?
I don't have a garage or even a drive way, (like I used to) so I won't have much room or time to do it. I know it will be the four bolts and the pulll and then wishing to get the new pipe in.
2. Where do you get your pipe from? I heard it comes in two pieces as well.
Ebay it up! Yes, the new Dp's are two piece and mandrel bent. its an easy task if you have a sawzall or a die grinder. If not it becomes a little more difficult.
Its so hard to give time estimates because everyone has different skill levels with a wrench in thier hand, could take 30 mins or 4 hours, it really depends.
Also the right tools like mentioned is a big help.
Just make sure you take enough off that lip on the firewall. Also that metal firewall insulation, I wanted to leave it all on there, rip that stuff off anywhere around the pipe, it was sitting on my pipe and almost rubbed a hole through the pipe when I looked at it 3 months ago.
Best bet would be to call Dale Isley at TYMAR PERFORMANCE. He not only has an excellent DP for our trucks but has great instructions. You will need to massage your firewall, so be ready for that. I got the one that goes from 3" at turbo to 3.5" then to 4" where it mates exhaust pipe. Dale got it ceramic coated for me.
What would be the advantage of having the DP ceramic coated & at approx. what additional cost?
Nothing. I had my DP ceramis coated buy a snowmobile performance company and it didnt do jack ****. Waste of money in my opinion. Plus the ceramic coating is a torched blue/gold color. No signs of any ceramic coating left, hahaha
