Agreed... The 6.4 has the Gold Coolant and the 6.7 has the Orange Coolant.

I'm pretty sure the coolant has nothing to do with these leaks or the problem would be more systemic.

I don't know how many GM vehicles I've run across now for sale that have F%%%ed cooling systems. I can't believe how many people don't know about the issues with dex cool, makes any hpfp issues look like a **** in the ocean.

Next coolant change, I'm switching over to evans coolant.
There are a lot of reasons why that coolant makes sense, I'm ready to bite.
Ready to go waterless.

Regular coolants are still causing cavitation issues after how many years of diesel truck engines.

Dex cool is actually very good (though I did not specifically recommend it) and only has one Achilles heel. It reacts badly when exposed to air over time. That is why the overflow tank became a surge tank.

Removing the cap often, or opening up the system often is not a good idea.

Some people cannot help themselves and just have to unscrew the cap, even though the coolant level is visable thru the tank.

But most people are just fine with a forget about it type system. And that is what the GM system is.

But there are a few other fine coolants out there....If I had a Ford, I think I'd be trying something different.

I do not believe the radiators themselves are at fault... That is a pretty low tech part of the truck, and the bugs have surely been worked out by now.

If not, then it really reflects badly on Ford.

Well you can now add me to the radiator leak list. I have a 2011 F250 6.7 that was built on 5/13/11. I've got 49,570 miles on it when the radiator started leaking on the drivers side where the tank mounts to the core. I dropped it off at dealer and they told me its not under warranty and will cost me $1200.00 to repair. I called Ford customer service and opened a case on the issue. The dealer called me a few hours later and Ford is covering $466.00 of the repair. I pay the rest. I guess its better then a sharp stick in the eye!
Does anyone know of any after market radiators out there for future reference?

Only the ones in post 28 and 30 that I know of and none available at this time. Looks like most of them leak in the same place......

The problem with Dex-cool is not when the coolant itself is exposed to the air, but the metal parts of the engine it protects are. Dex-cool (as is our specialty orange) is an Organic Acid Technology coolant. It keeps the metals extremely clean but as a result causes the metal to rust very quickly when not protected, causing the sludge that GM is famous for.

Smile Help with rad and other

Thanks a ton to this forum. Due to all the posts and help I got with the Rad - my experience on the repair was good. A large part of that would be thanks to Summit Ford in Toronto - Ross - as well.

Interesting - I had a problem with 4 x 4 low this weekend. Couldn't get out. Thought I now had a transmission problem - but found the solution through this forum!!

Why

Different expansion rates. You are never going to get solid seal with plastic and metal. You can make the seal so it will handle the difference in expansion rates, but it will always have a higher failure rate then old copper or aluminum
radiator. I hope someone will have a aftermaket radiator.

My GMC YUKON did leak between the plastic metal. (PRE goverment motors)

Some good news on the radiator front

Mishimoto tells me they are "in progress of developing an all aluminum radiator and intercooler for the 6.7L fords. We (they) hope to have something available within the next 3 - 4 months". They will let me know and I will let you know

Should only be a couple more gal of specialty orange on the ground by then

Thanks

rads

just had a new rad put in my 2011. They say the lower part of the primary rad had failed. Asked why and didn't even get an answer why it did. Just had to fix it going through a gallon a week roughly. If this keeps up wont be buying another ford for my next work truck.
