Radiator Leak

Came home from a road trip Monday night and noticed I had a leak coming from the Radiator. I wasn't sure if it was the radiator or not, as it was more like very clean oil on the ground rather than coolant. Turns out it was the radiator. Dealer is installing a new one tomorrow under warranty (have 35,850 miles), and provding a rental car.

I mentioned to the Service Tech at the dealer that I'd seen a few of these and a couple of guys that have already had to replace their radiator more than once. I asked if they were replacing with the same radiator as from the factory. He said this one is "completely new and redesigned."

Anyone know if this is true and there's a newer radiator than from the factory in 2011? My build date is in my sig.

Well, I don't know if they are "new and redesigned", but when mine was replaced a few months ago, the replacement looked a little different. I had to leave my truck an extra day because the first replacement rad that the dealership received was leaking as well so they had to order a second one.

My 2012 6.7 has been leaking coolant since the day I picked it up in October. It is a slow leak but it is spraying pink up on the hood on the passenger side between the valve cover and the air cleaner. The dealer initially told me that it was the pink soap they use to wash their vehicles so I let it go until the first oil change but they topped the coolant up at 8,000 kms and now at 13,000 kms it is down at least 3/4". I met with the service manager on Saturday and when I have the 16,000 km oil change done they are going to give me a loaner and sort out the leak. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this issue.

I went through 3 or 4 of them on my 2008 truck, I'm on the second one in this 2011 truck as well. My 2011 also needed a new water pump last year.

I really don't think ford is making any improvements on these but I sure hope so. It's been an issue for diesel trucks since 2007 when the 6.4 came out. I'd sure like to know how many radiators ford has gone through and if the engineering team responsible has been criticized for their ridiculous decision to keep using these craptastic components.

The design and construction is the issue. I'm sure the rads are being manufactured to the specs intended, it's not bad workmanship, just the wrong application. Funny how radiators have been around for nearly a century now but they are using the wrong ones for these motors.

Sorry for y'all's troubles. I've been there and likely will again.

The new one was installed for me last week. No hassles, got a loaner (although it was about the size of a smart car...it was free). But I don't trust the service writer that told me it's a redesigned radiator. I'm not much of a mechanic at all....

With the radiator replacement, would they have done a complete coolant system flush? Just wondering if that clock restarted on the coolant with the new rad.

They are supposed to as per the procedure in their manual (attached).

But you better confirm with them, I read somewhere on here that one dealer re used the coolant and another one replaced the coolant but used the wrong type.

All in the name of cheap manufactoring costs...

If mine ever goes out I would buy one from vista pro.
