GM everyone. I have a 97 S/d w/7.3 and E40d tranny. It came in this morning with what appears to be the torque convertor staying locked. I start the truck and drive it for a bit then when sitting at a light the thing wants to continuously try to pull off. I checked the pressures of the trans and they are within specs. I checked for codes and the only one I get is P1728 ( trans slip ). It makes no sense as to how that can be when the convertor appears to be locked up and the pressures are within spec. I changed the fluid and filter as well. I don't know where to go from here. Oh by the way, when I clear the code it works as it should but then when I test drive it again it will go back to doing it again.
Buckhammer it drives alright through all the gears. Though like I said it wants to stall out at lights and stop signs. I can clear that code and it will act normally for a while then after a test drive again it will do the same thing
Check the pressures at the test port. There is a chart that lists what the pressure should be at idle in P, R, D, 2, and 1. Also at stall in R and D. I don't have a copy handy or I'd post it here.
I suspect either the pump is worn or there are worn seals allowing internal leakage. When the pressure drops too low the torque converter clutch drifts on.
As I have stated in 1st post. Pressures tested all in spec. I just don't know why after clearing the P1728 code and test driving the truck that the torque convertors wants to stay locked up. Is it the torque convertor or is it the TCC solenoid
On mine it was the torque converter. I'd clear the code and somewhere between 3 and 5 miles it'd do it all over again.. 3 torque converters later all was well....
