Frame vin problems
Thanks kyle
The frame vins are "security vins" and are only looked at if there is a reported problem and then it will be detectives or police looking at them. This is according to the lady at the Tag agency.
On my 62 4x4 the front vin on the frame is very faint, almost readable with chalk rubbed into the letters after wire brushing with a drill. Mine is located passenger side, just behind the front axle area on the top flat area, runs from back to front with a star much like the symbol * on each end of the vin. The stars are very clear, a couple letters are ok, the numbers are faint as if the dies were worn out and the guy was too lazy to go check out new ones.
If no one posts a picture, I will go to the body shop tomorrow take one and post it.
Any time you have a vin welded on you can pretty much bet there is a conspiracy to hide the vin. After you find the correct vin or even if you do not, you can work with your state to get a title update and hope the Communist do not confiscate your truck and impound it until the problem is resolved.
Best of luck
Thank you guys again
Also, If you have a title, I am sure you can order reproduction Ford vin tags with original font and original rivits from the internet. Try http://www.vin-plate.co.uk/index.html If these guys cannot do it, there is someone else in the UK that can and will. Check evil bay.... It will help to have a vin that matches the title on the glove box.
Good luck.

It is the one the tag agency or police look at for registration (in Oklahoma).

CA: DMV/Law Enforcement do not go by VIN's stamped on Warranty Plates, as these plates are too EZ to change.
They go by hidden frame VIN's that have stamped asterisks before/after the VIN / Hidden VIN(s) located atop the right (passenger) side frame rail.
There could be one or two hidden VIN's: Under or partially under the cab, and/or forward of the cab.
Hidden VIN(s) can hard to find due to rust/scale/road grime, and may have been lightly stamped.
That is why I stated I live in Oklahoma. I hope every one able to get on the internet is smart enough to know all states are different. People are looking for a way out of title / vin problems especailly after spending a lot of time and money, any examples or hints might help. For example paint the whole fram and really apply a thick undercoat paint over the vin area.Seriously... does the Calif. DMV crawl unde the the truck or under the wheel well to check the vin or are they as lazy as most of us and just check the visible tag? Is anyone stupid enough to point out their truck does not have a proper frame vin? I hope not.

RANTING Of course it goes without saying it is best to get a title legally in your own state for we must fear and pay our government to screw and control us, even if it costs thousands more in unfair taxes which is what tags and titles are all about. But one can be as creative as the tax man or even take their pickup to another state that is not so controlling and does not check the frame to get it brought up to date and transferred back, it is a simple time and math problem not really worth it unless that is the only way one can get a title and tag without having the truck impounded by the Communist DMV. The last time I was at a DMV (tag agency), a guy did not have his out of state title notarized which was not required in the other state. After the guy was out of earshot, the clerk said she was tired of people not having their paperwork in order. Typical tax collector statement that has forgotten who she serves. RANT Rant rant.I think I am going to change my handle to grumpy old prospector.
