Ford Lettering

Morning all,

Another grille related post.

I have noticed that on the 1963 F-100's, the FORD lettering above the grille was located directly below two of the four openings. However, on the 1964 version it had spread out beneath all four.

I am asking because I am a stickler for originality and I am desperate to find out if the front of my truck is original.

It is a 1963 but resembles the lower image (including the lettering). I would have thought that if the grille was simply replaced that it would have the spacing of the letters on the above image and the grille of the lower one.

So, does anyone know if any F-100's left the factory in 1963 resembling the lower image? I have both grilles just not confident enough to commit to one yet.

Really hope this makes sense

Thanks, guys!

Post your VIN number. That way it can be deciphered as to when it was built. Late production probably like the 64 Just a guess on my part.

Thanks for the replies. The VIN number is:

F10CR360417

Does this provide any indication of when it was made?

F10 = F100 2WD

C = 292 2V

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.

360417 = 1963, assembled December 1962.

1962/64's use the same letters, but 1964's are spaced further apart than 1962/63.

So why does your '63 have wide spaced letters? Truck involved in an accident, upper grille panel damaged, replaced by 1964 junkyard parts.

Thanks, ND. It appears so. An easy fix.
