69 Bronco 35 inch tires, 4.10's, manual transmission
I'm building a 95 5.8 and looking for advice on cam and heads. My goal is good power from idle to 5000. I'm keeping the cr between 9 and 9.5. Fuel injection will be Edlebrock performer car manifolds, mustang a9l computer, properly sized tb, injectors, and maf; or I may go with the Mass Flo efi setup. I'm leaning toward Comp Cam's xe264hr ( 212 intake 218 ex @.050, 512 in .512 ex 114 lsa)and Edlebrock Performer 1.9/1.6 heads. What do you think? Is there a better setup?
That's a good combo but I'd suggest the Twisted Wedge fast as cast 170cc heads instead.. there's a lot of crap coming out of ChevyBrock these days.
Thanks for the input. I'm about to drop a lot of hard-earned cash on this build and I want to make sure I'm not making any mistakes. The TW heads do look good.
Yeah I'm happy with it.. It'll do alot better in a 351.. I have a small issue of low vacuum idle issues once in a while. But if your MAF your golden.. I'm speed density for now
Yeah that cam works well, it's not ideal for a 5.0 truck it's a little softer than stock below 2000rpm but that's the nature of the 5.0 anyway it likes more gearing, I had a similar grind in my 5.8 and it was awesome all around so I don't see you being disappointed.

Surging and occasional stalling?
I found out that my gas tank evap line had rusted in two when I replaced the front tank last summer, and since my truck doesn't have a canister purge valve that means this was a steady vacuum leak. After splicing it back together I no longer had the surging and stalling problem.
From personal experience and pure flow/dyno numbers..
And ya can go a lil bigger like the 190, but the 170 will produce a ton of low end..[/
Perfect. The Comp xe264hr is pretty common I' m finding. Are you happy with it?

That's what I like to hear. I'm going to use the xe264hr and TF fast as cast 170cc heads i think. Now if I could only get my machinist to get moving on the short block!

i dont have any vacuum leaks.. its just the fact of the low vacuum.. the speed density NO LIKEY.... doesnt help it has 1.72 RR's... but overall it runs and idles real good.. cant wait to get a new exhaust on it and a A9P/L to swap to MAF so i can idle it down so it'll sound like this...
make sure the shop balances the motor and using ARP hardware on the bottem end.
Yeah. It's funny when you talk to machinists about that. The ones that aren't set up to balance say it's not necessary unless you have a race engine, and the shops that have the equipment say otherwise. I'm having mine balanced.
