Exclamation Help finding Engine year and size

I was given an engine from under a semi trailer on a farm. It was rebuilt and has less then 1000 miles on it but has sat for 5 years with just a tarp over it. I was told it was a 1970's 351W but the numbers I pulled from the block came up as a 1967 429 Side-Oiler on the only website i could find with that number (C7AE-A). Can anyone help me? here are all the numbers i could find.

In between 2-3 Spark Plug on the Driver's Side: C7AE-A
Side of block under 1 Spark plug on the Driver's Side: 29 (upside down)
DIF
Driver's Side of the Water Pump: 29
352

The intake and water pump were not original to the block unfortunately.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds to me like an FE block.

Btw, the term "side oiler" is associated with the 427FE.. it has an horizontal oil galley along the passenger side to oil the mains. Technically speaking, plain ol' FEs, including some 427s (non-high performance), are center oilers.

A 351W has a vertical casting rib on the driver's side of the distributor hole. 289/302s do not.

Post a pic of what ya got and we'll go from there...

Oh yeah 351Ws were like in 69.. post a pic of the front where the water pump is mounted and a side view... that should do it.

Only thing for certain so far, it's a FE, check the crankshafts flywheel flange...if there's a "half-moon" cutout it's a 360, or a '65 and earlier 390

No "half-moon" cutout, it's a '66 and later 390, so... if the cranks flange has the "half-moon" cutout you'll need to measure the stroke...

3.50" = 360

3.78" = 390

Had those same number on my old motor that I put in my truck in 1978 that came out of a 1967 ford wagon. 390 Fe that looks to have 360 intake & alternator double belt v-pulley heater hose outlet. The oil filter mount bracket looks like the oem 1967 390 model. The crank pulley& damper looks like 360 and not the early 1967 type..That's my 2cents...orich

C7AE is a 1967 casting number (it's a foundry mark only). C7ME was also used in 1967 for FE engines.

Since all FE engines were cast as 352's, casting numbers are WORTHLESS for ID'ing the engine size or what vehicle it came from.

Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

Vertical filter adapter is from a car, because F100/350's used an adapter that mounted the filter horizontally.

Harmonic balancer on this engine was only used 1961/67. The 3 visable bolts attach "accessory" outer pulley(s) to balancer.

C3AZ-6312-E (replaced C1AZ-6312-A) .. Harmonic Balancer / 1965/67 F100/350 352 / Ford/Merc Passenger Cars: 1961/67 352/390, 1966/67 410/428.

D5TZ-6316-D (replaced C8AZ-6316-B & D2TZ-6316-A) .. Harmonic Balancer - 4 bolts required to attach 'accessory' outer pulleys: 1968/76 F100/350 360/390 / Ford/Merc Passenger Cars: 1968/70 390/428 / 1971 390.

Dual belt alternators with FE engines: Optional for 1965/76 F100/350's & 1965/71 Passenger Cars.

C5AZ-6375-D .. FE Flexplate. 1965/67 F100/350 352 MX C-O-M / 1968/76 F100/350 360/390 C6 / 1965/67 352/390 Passenger Cars with FX/MX C-O-M / 1966/71 Passenger Cars 390/C6.

C5AZ-6375-K .. 352/360 Flywheel-Use with 11" clutch / (6) 5/16" -18 pressure plate attaching holes on a 12 3/8" bolt circle. 1965/67 F100/350 352 / 1968/76 F100/350 360 / Passenger Cars: 1965/67 352/390 / 1968/71 390.

C5AZ-6375-L .. 390 Flywheel-Use with 11 1/2" clutch / (6) 5/16" 18 pressure plate attaching holes on a 12 7/8" bolt circle / 1965/71 390 Passenger Cars / 1968/76 F100/350 390.

ALL 1965/76 FE engines use the same waterpump, same pump also used on 1963/64 T-Bird's that all came with alternators.

1964 FE engine waterpump one year only, as it has a stud for the generator bracket to mount to. 1958/63 FE pump is different again.

That is a car setup with the front sump oil pan, it also has the mount bosses for the car mounts. 2wd trucks had a center sump pan, and 4x4 got a rear sump. 4x4 trucks also got a vertical oil filter mount, I have seen three now that were stock 4x4 installations with a vertical filter.

Dump trucks: 1964/78 F500/750's came with FT engines.

FT engines used the 3 point engine mounting system (as did 1965 F100/250 4WD, 1965/66 F350 & 1966 F250 4WD). Front center mount, R/L rear mounts.

4 speed with a PTO could be a Warner T-18 or New Process 435, installed in 1964/78 F500/750, 1965/76 F100/350.

C7AZ-6675-A .. Oil Pan: 1967/71 FE Passenger Cars / 1967 F100/250 352 2WD & F350 / 1968/72 F100/250 360/390 2WD & F350.

1958/64 FE engines have a different engine block rubber insulator bolt pattern than 1965/76 FE engines.
