I found the following number on the block of my 351w. D2AE6016-BA-14. The numbers are on the passenger side of the block just below where the starter is mounted. Can anyone decode this number and tell me what year this engine is? Or anything else about the motor for that matter, such as what type of vehicle it was originally installed in? I think the date code (I can barely see the bottom of them) is behind the starter, and I will remove it tomorrow and see. Let me know if you have any information, and thank you for your help! Bruce, Dalton, GA
The D2 means the block was "released for production" in 1972 ("D" means the decade of the 70's the "2" makes it 1972). I don't know if this means it was actually cast in 1972. The "A" means the engine was originally designed for full size Ford cars and the "E" means it was released for production by the Engine Division. Can't really help you with the rest of the number.
Thanks John. Just knowing that it is in the area of a 72 will help me be able to do periodic maintenance on the motor. I knew I was in trouble the other day when I stopped by the parts store on the way home for a set of plugs & wires, and when I opened the first spark plug box, the plug had the diameter of a pencil. Anyway, thanks for the help.
