Truck cap question

Just picked up a nice used LEER truck cap for my F350. My question is I have the plastic rails / caps over the bed rails. They look to be factory or at least factory options. Should I remove them to get a better seal when I install my truck cap? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I left the plastic rails on. It actually helps to seal better, depending on the design of your seal on the cap. My seal is a double-bead that I installed.

Yes, leave the factory rails on, put the special "camper tape" (available from Home Depot) on the topper, not the truck.

Would one thick row of weatherstripping be better or two thin strips of weatherstripping? Thanks.

They are factory, Leave the plastic rail tops on. I have a cap on mine. Is the cap made for the bed style? First set your cap on before putting any weather stripping on it to look for gaps. Put two thing strips side by side on the rails if can to cover the width of the cap. At the front corners and front you may have to build up the layers of weather stripping.

Very good, everything will fit really well. You will want and need the rail covers on. I have had one on for years and have no plans on ever taking it off.

Same here, plastic factory rails still on with a Raider topper on there. Just placed a thick camper weatherstrip seal on the underside of the cap edges and no issues. And let me tell you, it rains a lot in Portland, so if it was going to leak this'd be the place!
