2002 Explorer Adjustable Pedal Fix

Greetings all! Newbie first post. My wife's '02 explorer's adjustable brake pedal doesn't move anymore, however the gas pedal works as it always has, so the motor and cables operate but there is a gear in the brake adjuster apparently broken. I ordered part # AL2Z-2455-A today, which is suppose to be a repair kit for this, and is suppose to come with instructions. I have plenty of tools and am mechanicly able, however I'm 55, farsighted and not as flexible as I used to be and dread crawling under the dash, but willing to give it a shot.

My questions are:
Has anyone used this kit?
What is the difficulty level?
Does it have everything I need?
Can it be installed with the pedal assembly in place or does it have to be removed from under the dash?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Billy

Adjustable Pedal Kit

Hello Billy,

I also have to replace the AL2Z-2455-A Adjustable Pedal Kit on my 2002 Explorer (105,000). My brake pedal was all the way up and my gas was all the way down. I disconnected the cable going from the brake to the gas pedal and was able to lower the brake pedal. Now I need to get this kit. Let me know where to order it, I am having a hard time.

BTW, 57 years old and gettin stiff.

I would appreciate it.

Thanks Steveb from Chicago

Steve, sorry, I haven't been on here in awhile. I ordered the kit from my local Ford store (Cavalier in Chesapeake, VA). The kit comes with good instructions, however I haven't got around to installing it yet. The pedal assembly does have to come out from under the dash, which is a job I'm dreading doing, probably get to it in a month or so. Best of luck to you.

Hi *****,

I have been told by my locl Ford Dealer that the kit is no longer available. Could you let me know the part number that you used and I will try again at the Dealer. I did manage to get the brake pedel all the way down to the gas pedal, so I am drivable.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, the part # I have is AL2Z-2455-A. I bought it 2/26/13. Maybe try to google the part # and see if you can find one online. Maybe try another dealer, you could have had a lazy or inexperienced counterperson. Best of luck.
