2002 explorer power pedal problem

2002 explorer power pedal problem
I just bought an 02 Eddie Bauer 4.6 4x4 for my mother in law. The power gas and brake pedals are not working. Worse than that the gas pedal is stuck all the way forward (firewall) and the brake pedal is stuck all the way up high(towards the seat) They do try to move, so the switch is working. How do I get them even again?

Have you taken a look under the dash at the adjustable pedal system? My recall is that both pedals are part of a single assembly so if one pedal is against the firewall and one is stuck up high, the assembly is probably broken rather than just being out of calibration.

In the service manual there's no mention of calibrating them, even after replacement. The replacement steps only speak to the assembly, not separate steps for the accelerator pedal and brake pedal. Are you certain it's a 2002?
