Then we run into that "single hinge stress" issue. I have no intentions of drilling holes in the fender for mounting a swing I don't mind the idea of a rear mounted tire but If I spend the money on a bumper mounted swing arm, would it hold up to the weight of a 35 with a steel rim, a hi-lift jack, and possibly a gas can? That's got to be rounding the corner of 250lbs or so.

Also, I don't know how to build bumpers or weld...

I think I kind of get what you are thinking. The 2 hinges are close to each other and the bars spread as it goes out till you hit the tire mount? I would draw an example of my thoughts but I'm kind of lazy and going to bed in a minute.

EDIT: Also for Joe, I made a trip to the JY today. No new sag pumps I also cannot buy a backing plate from there. It's either a $450 full 9" rear end or nothing. Though the price isn't bad and I could get different gears with it, I would rather just get the work done than needs t be done and worry about gears later.

Your junkyard SUCKS the one by my place will let me pull individual pieces. Call NW Auto Recyclers and ask for price on a backing plate and drum, don't give them specifics, just ask for flat prices. If it's fair I can run up there and pull the parts, hell I think the whole rear should be cheaper than $450 F-ing dollars. And if you're worried about a single hinge tire carrier then just make it hinge the same way the tailgate does and use Cam locks and you can put as many hinges points on as you want.

yeah, your junkyard sucks. many of the full-service yards suck, they want to sell you complete items for way too much money. i use pick-n-pull in lynnwood, they also have a tacoma yard which would be a lot closer for you. completely self service, $1 to walk in the door, and fair prices, all of which can be looked up on their site picknpull.com

X2 on pick-n-pull. I go to the one in Lynnwood quite often.

GJ: if I happen to spot a transfer case shift boot when I'm out junkyard-ing, want me to pick it up for you?

It kills me to pay $1 to walk on the lot.
Dylan, I saw a thread about a guy ripping his bumper off and made a new one that was BEEF 4"x6" x1/4". You could mount what ever you wanted on it.
Jameson, were you still interested in borrowing that welder? And are you going to the meet?

Hey everyone. I started a thread in the 73-79 forum to get Opposum reinstated. He was banned from fte. If you know him please add your two cents. He was a member of the Wa chapter. He will be coming to the meet this Saturday as well.
Thanks Joe.

I don't know if they would have an issue with me pulling it myself, I didn't ask. They told me they wouldn't pull it themselves and sell whole rear ends so I gave up. I do already have a backing plate now, my boss gave me one from a junk 9" he has. No charge at all either.

Even Tacoma is too far for Junkyard parts. Not worth it. Plus $1 just to walk the yard? My local one is pretty much pick n pull, you do the work and you don't need to pay to get in. Their prices suck most of the time but I rarely go in for big ticket items. If I go in it's to look around for anything I could use and if it's small enough, I toss it in a pocket and go about my way.

If you want, I don't know my financial situation just yet since I haven't gotten payed and I haven't bought all my parts yet. But if you find one I would appreciate you snagging it

Sounds like a strong bumper. If I knew how to weld and had access to the materials building one would be easy. Unfortunately I know nothing when it comes to custom fab. My neighbor used to work in a fab shop so I planned on talking to him to see if he could think of anything. I think I am going to forget about the roof mount. I realized the tire is definitely going to be too heavy to get up there much less get back down.

Still interested, but I unfortunately can't make it.

I like the one on the Excursions or whatever the number 5 and 6 pictures are. that's a heck of a bumper. Might take a while to figure out how to mount it to get everything to work. I've never installed a custom bumper, heck I only recently installed my first bumper on an Econoline van at work. I've never had a reason to take one off.
