just got my 66 f250 back together again. one side had a blown head gasket, the other side had a broken valve seat that fell into the cylinder and made a mess.
still have to finish hooking up the exhaust and I got to run to the store to get 2 more bolts for the exhaust manifold...
but just for ****s and giggles, I turned the key and it fired right up!!! I', pretty f'n happy right now.
But, Not sure how to hook up the throttle cable to the carb. Here's a pictre but did doesn't seem right.
the first reason why I don't think it's set up right is the idle screw. in this picture the idle screw isn't touching the bottom plate at all but if I screw it in all the way it just barely touches the plate. I don't believe I'd be able to adjust the idle at all.
next. I'm not sure what this is but I doesn't seem to do anything except act a a rest fot the throttle lever. regardless, it doesn't touch.
also in that picture you can see a longer bolt to the right? that bolt i on a lever that pivots freely. doesn't do anything except just moves freely back and forth on its pivot.
I'll try to take a better picture. And try to point out the reasons why I think it's set up wrong.
Thanks, the last time I tried to order one, I think it was LMC, they were back ordered and I haven't tried since. I'll try NPD. I just want one for a back up...
Did you loosen the clamp holding the cable and try sliding forward until the idle screw is engaged? At this point it looks like the idle would be way to high .
The rusted thing is an antistall dashpot, it allows the throttle to close slowly rather then snap shut. It's possible that is froze or out of adjustment and not allowing the throttle to close.
Sorry I can't remember more, I replaced mine with a 4V Holley..
I did and that's as far as the throttle lever will pivot. Even without the cable, that's how far it will pivot...
That doesn't seem right. Try removing that dashpot, if that doesn't help you the butterflies may be hanging up on the gasket. Pull the carb and see if they will close when its off.
I found my old carb in the garage but it's different where the cable attaches, and I don't have that extra lever with the screw or a dashpot. They may be different depending on an Auto trans or stick, mine is a 4 speed..
