Ok, so my 38R turbo has always been a bit on the noisy side. Simply driving the freeway at 75 is enough you feel like your trying to talk over it a 5-6psi boost. Today i built the .pdf sheet metal enclosure for the 6637. It helped cut down the in cab noise, but at the expense of throttle response. It takes noticeably more throttle input to get moving and feels more laggy!
What options are left?
I seen in an old thread, Clay was recommending the S&B over the AFE intake.
The AIS is out. Between initial cost and replacement filters, its not what I want.
Thanks Rich. Sled, if you want quiet, one of the enclosed cai are what you need to use. I've used a Banks lined with dynamat and now an AIS. Both are about the same. I've also done some other sound proofing that has worked pretty well. PM me your # and I'll fill you in. To much to type for now. When I get it how I want it I'll post up for the group.
Jim.
I may have jumped the gun a bit. When I went to test it out the motor was cold. Its been hanging around 10-15*. Let it idle in the drive for a few min. Hopped in and headed to dads house < 3 miles away. I don't think it ever got up to operating temp. Today I pulled some sleds up to the mountain. It didn't seem nearly as noticeable. What I did notice is the compressor pitch is toned down. One hill I hit 15psi boost. Normally I would have let out and let it upshift. Now you hear the air moving instead of the whine tone. That's what I was after
All in all, I think its livable. Like a dummy, I cut the back out of the battery tray, so my hold down doesn't work. I'm gonna have to build a sheet metal stop so it will work again. No big deal...
