can i put a blow off valve on my truck to get a better pressure release sound or is the pressure release system different form the ones one turbocharged gas vehicles?
Blow off valves sit between the turbo and manifold to release the boost when you close the butterfly, after higher rpms/load (gearchanges for example).
It reduces lag - and can seriously damage the turbo if you are making serious boost - and running a roller throttle too (don't ask )
However most diesels don't have a throttle body (7.3l's don't)... so there is NO need....
Plus there are some of us that can't stand the noise of a try hard Honda engine sneezing
i was just curious because my truck already makes that release sound when i let off the throttle and i want to make it louder, i already have a afe stage 2 intake system is there anything else i can do?
(That sound is the unused boost being released back into the intake tube right?)
No - you were right in your previous post BigF350 - what you want for a diesel is a properly working and adjusted WASTEGATE - but there is NO need for a BOV.....
it seems like what the system is doing is the same thing that a blow off valve would do but a blow off valve releases the pressure into the atmosphere not into the intake, although there are blow off valves that do release back into the intake aswell
doesnt that kind of make sence?
There's really no benefit to a blow off on our engines, like Big said gassers with a throttle plate between the turbo and engine have to have them, we don't. Seems kinda like putting one of those turbowhistle dohickeys in the exhaust pipe to make a car it sound like it is turboed.
If you want more noise, you can remove the insulation from the aluminum tube between the turbo and the CAC, posters have reported that increases the intake sounds.
If that's still not enough noise, you can loosen one of the CAC rubber boots, then you will get some really interesting sounds.
The air rushing back out is unuseable. Since you are rolling out of throttle anyway, why would you need it. If you are talking about the rush of air you hear when she goes into overdrive, that is because the RPM's are low and the the turbo is working hard from third gear. If you delay the 4th gear shift it won't happen anymore. BOV's are not usefull unless you are running serious boost (as before mentioned) and you have a manual transmission. Automatics use the boost curve 100% of the time. If it is the sound you are looking for, I think ebay has a speaker that is a simulator. Otherwise they are completely useless in our application.
