this is directed toward all you guys who have painted and made their idi's nice and purty.
i have 90 f250 ext. Cab Long bed and would like to get it painted and want to know what the average cost you guys paid for your paint job. i dont want anything crazy, either gloss black or just white.(actual white, not the off color ford white it is now)
Black is the most spendy and hardest to look good, red is next spendy, the darker the color the harder it is to look straight. Cost also depends alot on body work. The more work the more hours, the more money.
Depends entierly on the shop and how much prep work is required it can be anywhere from $500 to $2000+ (last time my truck was by MAACO they quoted $700 to repaint the cab if I removed the flatbed first)
hehe dont worry they wont be painting my truck (they did paint the race car though but for that who cares what the paint looks like) I just use them for some of the body work besides paint, plus their the only ones open on the weekend around here.
body on truck is completely straight has some rust but i am going to fix that myself cuz god knows how much they would charge to replace a panel. i heard not to use maaco if u want to paint just a panel or so painted because they cant match. but i plan on prepping myself and doing jams myself.
I just had mine painted.. There was very little body work to be done. I purchased the paint and what goes with it. The shop provided the primer. My cost was just over 5K. I went with Dupont Nason Urethane paint.
I've seen some maaco paint jobs that looked good and some bad. I think I saw a commercial the other day that they are doing 1/2 price paint jobs. I'd go by there and look at some of the work that's coming out of the shop. I find it hard to believe that every maaco across the country is putting out shoddy work.

The biggest problem with MAACO is the prep work and an occasional tech that just doesnt care what it looks like, if you want a MAACO paint job to last you have to do ALL the prep work and make sure you pay extra for the good paint and clearcoat (heck their base package doesnt even include clear coat). The biggest reasson their so cheap is their defination of a repaint is to just scuff the old paint and put new on top so they save boat loads of labor by not sanding down the old paint and not using primer, theyll also use minimal tape/covering so youll get overspray normally. Now all that said what they did on my racecar (fender and door) looks better then the rest of the car but I honestly wouldnt be suprised if the old paint was a MAACO job as well that I was debating getting repainted anyways
Ya we had our 91 done at maaco to go to auction. Had no paint on hood roof tops of fenders etc, surface rust was getting pretty severe. They painted it silver for 2100. Runs everywhere, they didnt completely fix the spots we paid to have fixed. They painted trim, overspray EVERYWHERE, probably the worst though, scratches.. they must have used 80 grit to "scuff" the the truck because wow, looks more like grooves than scratches, the paint just looked terrible no shine or depth. Here it is about 5 years later, and i guess its peeling around the edges of doors / windows.
well for the most part i think you guys have scared me into just painting myself haha
but i will get a quote from them when i get back home. they told me they wouldnt give me a quote over the phone so that doesnt sound to good to me.
