Coolant filter
Here is a link to the coolant filter I installed.

When you scroll down and view the pictures of the what the "filter" removed... then I think you will be impressed and know why?
As well, I am also the "Jeff C." that sent Dieselsite.com the photos of my install and the cut open filter of my coolant filter (due to being so impressed). They ended up using them on their site.
Again... some people have a lot of stuff that gets filtered out and some have very little... but well worth the protection and piece of mind do know it is working!!!
In the 6.0L motor, all you need is a 50/50 mixture of the Ford Prem Gold coolant and no additives (per you manual).
Additives were for the older diesel motors, not the 6.0L. As well, only use Prem Ford Gold coolant or a coolant meeting the same spec... Or you may/will have issues.
Personally, I use the Ford Gold coolant and flush my system every 50,000 miles and have never had an issue with my EGR, EGR cooler or headgaskets... so I am happy with the Ford coolant and frequent flushes and the use of a coolant filter!!
Headgaskets - $3100
Oil Cooler - $800
Heads - $900 each
Crate 6.0L - $6000
Now how does $120 in parts from Grainger sound? Or a kit from PMM or Dfuzer? All it takes is one of those above parts failing to caused a lifted head, cracked block, plugged up oil cooler, popped EGR cooler, a dozen of different failures that a coolant filter "might" forestall.
A good set of gauges will go a lot further than a coolant filter on it's own. But you sure aren't hurting anything by doing it. Putting down the coin to chemically scrub the **** out of the cooling system (and to deal with the potential clogged oil cooler from doing that) and switching to a different coolant is about the only other option to cover what a coolant filter covers. Even then, if you're the unlucky owner of a block filled with casting sand you'll still need one. It's a $120 insurance policy on top of the one between your ears to put off more expensive repairs caused by ignorance or sheer bad luck.
Dude, it's a crap shoot as to whether or not it'll actually help you. But for less than the cost of one oil change, can you afford to NOT put on a coolant filter on your personal truck?

Now, I do know that Ford updated their "maintenance checks" for people to check their coolant nitrite levels and to either flush or drain and refill their systems... but I can not remember if adding any kind of "additive" like in the 7.3L motors was an approved course of action or not???
I guess you can Google what you added and see if it is allowed to be added to the Ford Prem Gold fluid... and if so, under what circumstances. Like anything elese, there is a fine balance of the chemical make-up... and adding something to the system that is not supposed to be there, may not be good for it.... but I just do not know.... and if you are allowed to use it, maybe only if the chemicals have been depleted, and yours have not yet been????
