My custom-built TC from John Wood makes what I would describe as a scraping or rattling noise when in park and neutral because of the lack of dampening springs. Supposedly it is because of the harmonics between the 7.3 and the TC, and that the same TC behind a 6.0 wouldn't make the same noise. It freaked me out at first, but when I asked John about it he said it was normal, and the trans performs flawlessly.

Could the dampening springs have gone out of my tc because i dont notice any difference in my trans and i only hear the noise below 1000 rpms
Very possible. Because of the vibration and size of the 7.3, there needs to be a lot of dampening between the engine and tranny. I also suggest you check your oil level as low oil can cause a much louder engine in low RPM's. Same goes for your transmission oil level.

I check my oil level religiously but i dont have an owners manual so i dont know whether to check the trans in park or nuetral but either way it always seems to be at the right mark. If the dampening springs did go out pf my tc what else will it tear up if i drive it like that?
You can download a copy of your owner's manual for free. Just go to www.motorcraftservice.com. On the left hand side of the page select "Owner's Guides". Select your model year and your truck and you'll see the guides listed.
