Strange noise from the engine
First off its a 92 with a 302 with 35's and 68,000 miles on it and its a 5 speed manuel and the noise only happens when Im about to take off forward or backing up and I don't give it enough gas and I hear a clanging noise or knocking noise coming from the engine when its about to stall. I've driven many other manuels and when this happens they have never made the sound that this one does. I was wonder what it could be, Its not a sound of something thats loose and jiggling it sounds internal possibly. Please help me out with any advice or if anyone else has had this sound and knows what is causing it. Like I said it only makes it when I don't give it enough gas starting out and its trying to conk out on me. One more thing when Im going at highway speed in 4th or Overdrive and I floor the gas I can see some smoke blown out the rear of the truck. Why does it do this? cause it never does it anyother time. Thanks a lot for any advice on this.

sounds like it could be a failing head gasket, the clank is prolly just loss of oil pressure to the lifters and the rpms drop below the min for the oil pump. I have noticed that kind of noise in some other truck in the same situation.
