Hello, Im trying to buy a 1990 F-150 with a 351 Windsor, however the engine won't start and I don't want to buy the truck until I hear that engine run. Heres the details.
- Tank has gas - Fuel pump is operational - Fuel is getting to the rail - All plugs are sparking - Tried the position sensor in the transmission, no change - Fuel pump relay was replaced, no change - Belt is off (dont think this will keep it from starting though) - Has new distributor cap, plug wires and plugs - Engine is EFI
Seller says the engine was running fine, then it started acting up for a while, the truck was put in storage, now it doesnt start at all.
Engine just turns and turns but will not catch. Someone said it could be the EEC relay, has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?
Them early EFI's are a pain!
Check all the sensors/computers, don't just throw parts at it hoping it will work.
If you are going to buy the truck, help yourself out and get the belt.
Why are you trying to fix a vehicle that you haven't bought? I understand you might want to make sure it will run but thats the owners responsibility. Once you fix it, the owner gets to sell it for much more than a non-op truck can be sold for. Buy it cheap or make the owner fix it or move on. Being non-op... $500 - max. Running - a few grand. If the owner wants to sit on a non-op vehicle cause no or want to get ripped off so be it.
So many people think their shít is worth way to much. Buy it based off the premise that it needs a motor; it should be priced accordingly.
i have to agree with crazy ... what happens to the price if you get this thing purring like a kitten while it's still in his name and still in his driveway ?
