I have a buzzing sound coming from the passenger side under the hood behind the battery. It does it when I turn the key (while the engine is off). Sounds like a compressor. Anybody have a clue?
I hear it on and off. somtimes it does it sometimes not. at first it sounded like it was coming From the dash. What's the best way to check for a vacuum leak?
Yup, vacume pump. When I first got mine years ago i ASSsumed it was from the glow plugs and learned later by observation up close and on here it's the pump. On a minute or two then off. If the key is left on for whatever reason for awhile like running the AE scanner, it will come back on at some point when the vacume pressure bleeds down some. Mine sounds more like clatter than a buzz.
I have a Mity Vac with a vacuum gauge on it... it gets used almost every time I get near the truck. First... if your heater works at your feet, it's not a big leak. If all you have is defrost, it's a big leak. Pull a dedicated vacuum line (like to the front-right hub) and vac away, watching the gauge. No Mity Vac or funds to get one? You can try blocking one line at a time with the key on and listen for the change in pitch/shutoff with the pump.
Would it have anything to so with the ABS light coming on? I recently installed the airlift 1000 airbags in front. ABS light started coming on and off after that. Is it possible a vaccum line come loose?

If it were me, I'd start with the tests I suggested and see where that took me.
I just went out and checked it, it's it doing it now. I do have heat coming out the floorboard so it must not be that big of a leak if any. Ian getting ready for a 1400 trip so I need to check it out again. Thanks guys
If the vac lines going down to your hubs are original my bet is you breathed on one too hard installing your airbags and developed a leak. At this age, most of them are brittle and pretty much worthless.
just stopped by advance auto and had them check for codes. It showed a B1237 which is a rear speed sensor. Still have not pulled wheel off, getting ready to go do that now
