Post Noise Before Starting

When I get in my truck and turn the key on I hear a sound that sounds like a small motor running. Any one hear this or had this issue? It runs for about a minute or so.

Thanks,

Up Front = Vacuum Pump
Underneath = Fuel Pump

I'm guessing vacuum pump if goes more than 20 seconds or so.

That is your vacuum pump running. Sounds like you have a vacuum leak!

Is it normal or could I have a leak that causes the vacuum pump to run to build up vacuum?

What is the best way to locate the location of the leak? Any known areas to leak?

yeah that all works perfectly, I may pull it out and check it though. Now that you mention it is is kinda slow to switch to floor sometimes.

I wouldn't worry about your pump running at start up. I think all of these trucks do this. I don't think it will hold vacuum with the truck turned off for a long while.

if you have a leak the hubs wont lock and heater door stays on defrost..sounds like you got a leak starting if the pump wont shut down..let the pump run with key on and truck not running and see if you can hear any leaks.. most of the time the leaks are down near the locking hubs..

Ron, on his 1st post he said the pump only runs for about 1 min. Could be fuel pump or vacuum pump. They both will run at start up.

I won't have the locking hub issue as mine is only 2wd as far as it being the vacuum pump I think I narrowed it down to that because you can really here it in the passenger foot well. I will not worry to much about it now as it seems to be pretty normal. Thanks for your help.
