So I bought a 02 excursion 4x4 with the V10 and just drove it 6 hours pulling a car trailer with a car on it no problems. Once on a steep hill my ABS light flashed but that's it. I stopped multiple times with no problems.
Got to Lubbock and unloaded the car off the trailer and drove the excursion and empty trailer around the block.
Came out an our later and my check engine light is on (weird kind of square light bottom left of gauges)
It will idle fine but if I shift it into gear after a few feet of driving it dies and the battery light comes on and the overdrive off light flashes.
The battery light is normal, that's on because the engine isn't spinning the alternator anymore. The O/D off light is not...that means that the PCM has detected something wrong with the transmission.
Hopefully it's something simple, but the truck needs to be scanned with a capable scan tool for us to give you much more advice. Basic scan tools will not be able to read a transmission code.
You can probably take it to most auto parts stores and they have one they'll come out and read it for you for free. It won't be nearly as detailed at AE, but it'll give you a good idea. Take the code number (if they don't tell you what the problem is) and google it.
