Morning Dave! Yup, 2.3 with the oval port head not the "d" port head. My son in law want's the head bad for his race car.........
The engine came from a wrecked Mustang II that would smoke the tires in the first two gears. I towed the Courier from a crash on I-84 ten years ago........
If you think the Mazda/ Courier cab was small, you should climb in the 35............lol
2 normal sized folk can barely sit side by side in a courier without touching..........In a Ranger, you CAN squeeze a 3rd person in the middle if you know them well.
I think Courier cab dimensions were never changed from Japanese size people dimensions when brought over here.
The 8 plug EFI 2.3 Lima in my 93 Ranger Splash boasts 105 whopping HP, A S/S exhaust header, pretty quick from 35-65 mph, and 27mpg from here to work and back everyday.
One of the best engines Ford ever built, and capable of some serious HP.
Calling it a "Pinto motor" is a insult.
I've never been as impressed with a 4 banger as I was with this 2.3 in the Mustang. It would smoke the tires (4 speed...) as long as you had your foot on the go pedal, and was QUICK! It impressed me so much I junked out the car so I could use the engine in the 35!
Kid I knew in HS had a Pinto with the 2.0 German built Ford Lima motor.........120hp stock!
4spd, header, 32/36 weber carb, and cam from a REAL European Mercury Capri 2.0
He left more than one kid in a Camaro wondering WTF just happened to him!
I have no idea what this engine came out of originally, but it made a couple of my friends jaw's drop..................lol
The 35 should weigh about a thousand pounds lighter than the mustang and I can't wait to see how it performs!
It could be that German built 2.0/120hp that somebody transplanted, telling a 2.0 from a 2.3 takes tearing it open to tell.
I have decided to wait until finances permit to buy a rebuilt TK-5 for the Ranger from Trans. exchange up in P-town (good lead, Don)..............No more J-yard crap, gotta beautiful 2.8 to attach to it, so why hook it to a junker trans.
The Ranger can wait...........It ain't going anywhere.
All I know about this engine is that when my son in law saw the head when I had it off to see what the bore looked like ( still had hone marks in it with 0 wear!) he begged me to sell it to him. He works for a Ford dealer that sponsors him in "Mini-Stock" at the local race track. He wasn't happy with my NO........
I've been buying parts and whole rebuilt trans from Transmission Exchange in Portland for almost 30 years. Great bunch to work with!
When it comes to engines I very seldom build one anymore. I buy engines from Motor Works in Spokane. Great prices and very good service. They will build it with any parts you want, and have an engine dino on site and will dino-tune your new engine if you want. All of their stock engines come with a 5 year 50,000 mile nationwide warranty.
I used the their warranty twice in the last 30 years........
