Sorry to hear you came within contagious - contamination range of politicians Don. Sure hope you had the proper immunizations. Would hate to loose you.................
Good afternoon all. In for a lunch break and a cold shower. May take the tractor and field chopper out and work on the bottom of the duck pond today. It's really a candidate for some good weed killer - but.................
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Just in from the farm.
Yes it is Don. We have just a hint of sunshine and everyone thinks they need to go outside and play!
Had a rather unpleasant surprise this evening. Opened the garage door on the garage at the farm and was greeted by a skunk. I was looking at the tail and business nozzle and so I didn't stick around to ask questions.
He seemed to be firmly entrenched as if he had taken up residency. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get him leave the garage. Couldn't shoot him while he was still in the garage so I to resign myself to a standoff. We spent some time staring at each other and he acted like I should be scratching his back or something. He finally went back in behind some of the equipment from the old blacksmith shop we have stored in there and apparently went to bed. Left the window open and closed the door. Hopefully he will exit through the window tonight and stay out. Tomorrow I'll spread a bunch of moth ***** around in there.
I considered that. Usually if you hit them at the base of the skull and sever the neck and nerves, you have about 60 seconds to "get them out of Dodge" before the muscles start relaxing and letting the stinky stuff out. I've done that quite a few times. I just didn't have the right angle tonight and the last thing I wanted to do was worry about a smelly mess. I was also a little concerned about where that 9mm round would come to a final resting place at.
I took one out with a .22 (CCI Stingers are a devastating round, all out of proportion to their size) I left him lay still several minutes..........no stink.
When you make the top of their heads disappear, it really slows them down.

Yep, the Stingers are a big magnum wrapped in a small package. Unfortunately, I didn't have any with me, they were all at my house. The only thing I had with me tonight was the 9 with HP rounds. Had a 22 and a 20 gauge in the farm house, but no stingers, just some CCI mini-mags with the standard 40 grain war heads.
That 9mm would have MORE than done the job.........But, it's hard to lay down and steady your aim at 50yds with a pistol.
That's why a scoped 10/22 is always within easy reach up here.
I have shot a lot of critters with CCI Stingers over the years, they pack a incredible punch for their caliber, If I was forced to carry something smaller than my .380 for CCW, it would be my Walther P-22 with Stingers.........I would NOT want to get hit by one of those.
