It certainly makes you think twice about sticking your head out the back door to see what the dogs are barking about.
My cousin is currently having problems with a cougar in his sheep pasture. He hasn't lost any sheep yet, but he has been having to bring them into the barn every night.
In the last ten years we've had two locals kill cougars (less than a mile from me...). One was in his shop when he walked in in the morning, and the other was tracking a local lady that was walking her dog!
Pretty sure we had one here on the base last fall in the building we call the bomb shelter. I could smell him, and NO I didn't go take a look inside..................lol
The only things that we ever have trouble with are racoons and skunks.
The dogs had a skunk on the run several months back at 0200. That was a close but lucky call.
The neighbors dog got sprayed by a skunk several years ago. I'm glad it was them and not me.
Thankfully no cougars or any other large animals. However, 6 or 8 years ago we had a bull elk run right down my street and dart off into the very small forest/natural area here in town. That poor guy is at least 10 miles away from any normal elk habitat in this area.
I think it was on Fox 12, not to sure of that Jim.
Clive Clussler is the author that I follow the mosy, right now though it is Dudley Pope.
Ah another Cussler fan, I also like reading about Nautical fiction during the American Revolution and the Nepolianic wars. Alexander Kent, Forester, and Dewey Lambdin. Another favorite is W.E.B, Griffin, anything he writes.

The Mrs. walks up behind out place mostly at night. She sighted cougar sign a couple of days ago. Told her to switch from .380 to .40S&W with hollow points, better round, and more of them.
What a coincidence......Had a bear cross the road about 300yds in front of me this morning.
Plenty of deer and elk here (obviously black bear too) but never seen any mountain lion evidence near the house.
I have pistols for any 2 legged vermin that could possibly wander off the highway, and a ready AK for anything larger.
Good evening gents. Good on you jim. Just finished digging two hundred feet of trench for a water line to the shop. I have an old Ditch Witch but it's still a lot of work.
People around here feed the deer and think of them as pets, there's a big cougar that hunts around here an I'm shure that a large population of prey anamals has not escaped it's attention.

Alexander Kent, C.S. Forester are also some of my favorites. Nepolianic war is what the Dudley Pope series is about, 16 books in the series. And I do own ALL of Cussler books.

Cussler and Clancy are my favorites too.
If you ever want to know how horrible war is, read a novel by Guy Sajer called "The forgotten Soldier" about a French kid who joins the German army in 1941 and gets sent to the Russian front.......You will never forget it.
