If you have no forward and no reverse something mechanical broke. If it is a 4x4 then it could be in the transfer case or the transmission, if it is a 4x2 then something broke inside the transmission. We could guess all day as to what exactly broke to cause this, but no matter what it is the trans has to come out of the trans and be repaired or replaced.
Thank you for your reply. It is a 4X4, sorry. I was hoping it was something stupid. Since it didnt show any signs other than the random overheating and then no gears. It does engage but won't stay there for long
Hello Mark,
Would it not have any forward gears if it was super low on fluid? I'll be checking it tomorrow as it is on the side of the road broken down. Is there anything else I could check before removing the transmission? again I really thank you for all you're help
WOW, I'm impressed with all the great people on this site, Crazy001, Alaskan667, Mark Movalsky, DRRXR, and Kdr358 you all are really helpful, THANK YOU ALL. It really feels great that a bunch of strangers actually come together to try to help a stranger out, The truck is broke down on the side of the road I've ordered and received a ATSG technical manual and will try to figure out what went wrong, any pointers? I have a nice clean organized work shop and a parts washer, I ordered a few of the special tools, the spring compressor ect. wish me luck!!!!!!
Hey Mark,
My '99 F-250 4X4 started this same thing today. Out of no where. When it's running and you put it in drive the engine "boggs" down slightly but no forward and no reverse. Then when I went to put it into park it was grinding the park lock. Would this more than likely be a transfer case problem?
Thanks.
Colby
