4x4 shift motor

when i switch the transfer case shift motor to high does the shift motor keep it lock in high, and say would a weak shift motor cause it to "pop" in and out of 4wd
just trying to figure how all this works
I'm still having a popping transfer case
I know about tire sizing, not driving on dry payment with 4wd,etc
thanks chad

The mechanical side of the T/C does not come to play in the 2H1 or the 4Hi switch position...

  • 2Hi, drive power straight throu to rear shaft..
  • 4Hi, drive power to rear shaft, with the addition of the front driven via an electromagnetic clutch..
  • 4Lo, the T/C shift a mechanical gear to obtain low ratio in addition to condition in 4Hi.....
If you are experiencing a popping under load, investigate a slack chain.

Hope this helps.... Philip

just 2wd, 4wd hi and 4wd lo
does the shift motor keep it locked in 4wd or what keeps the transfer case locked in 4wd
when my transfer case pops in 4wd under load it will go into 2wd, but when you let off the throttle it will go back into 4wd
i can drive in 2wd all day long no noise whats so ever

The 2wd/4x4 cases move a shift collar to engage the chain and front output, the auto cases have the electromagnetic clutch.
