Transfer Case Issues

Well lately I've been having a major gerk in my drivetrain and I wasn't sure what was going mainly because it only happened randomly. Well today I had a gerk and after that it was like I was in nuetral and my 4x4 light came on but the selector switch was in 2wd model. It had zero power so I put the trans in neutral and turned it off and back on and it was back to normal no light nothing just put it in gear and drove. It happen one other time today and this evening I crawled under there and my hubs aren't locked and are free (warn premiums) but the front shaft was locked but the switch on the dash was in 2wd and no light on the instrument panel. I locked the hubs and went for a drive and the front shaft finially unlocked but the kicker is when I turn on the 4x4 nothing happens including 4 low it only has 2wd power. Is it possible my shift actuator on the case shot craps and was locking in on its own and now is dead. Anyone ever have this happen?

Manual shift transfer case or shift on the fly?

If it's shift on the fly, check the shift relays for corrosion or possibly a short. Replace the shift relays, they could be "bouncing" and activating themselves. The shift motor can't move without power, so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. It seems the most likely cause is the shift relay's. If it's not them, it could be a bad GEM module.

If it's manual shift, well... It's pretty much got to be mechanical.

It is shift on the fly. I pulled off the shift motor off the trans case and the case shift shaft.. guess thats is what its called was in between 2wd and 4x4. I put it back into 2 wheel drive and it took case of all the slip issues. It does lock into all positions when manually locked in with a wrench. I had someone flip the switch on the dash and the shift motor did nothing. One weird this is everytime the truck is started the shift motor does make some sort of click noise. I'm picking up a new shift motor tommorow to see if thats solves the problem. When I pulled down the motor it was all covered with craps so I'm not sure if somehow water got into the inside and screwed things up. Where are the relays located you mentioned just incase the new shift motor doesn't solve it.
