I was driving to work this morning when all the sudden, the headlights and dash lights went dim, the engine sounded like it was loosing power, and the battery light started flashing. I pulled my cell phone charger out, turned fog lights off, turned radio and cb off. It acted wierd all the way to work with the lights flickering and such. Made it to work but I assume that I need a new alternator. Will have mine tested just to be sure. My question is about this alternator I found at DB Electrical.
The only reason I'm cautious is because the price and because its a 130 amp. Has anyone else used one of these? Does it look legit? I was going to attempt to rebuild mine but if I can up the amperage for that price I may just order the new one. Thanks guys!
FWIW, when my alternator went out on my 350, I just went to orielly. I love their lifetime warranty (and the fact they are local) and used it numerous times on the alternator for this truck. Not like it is an involved install. 3 bolts, serpentine belt and a couple connections. 30 minutes and done. Less time and easier to install an alternator than change the oil.
I'm running a 165 amp DB alternator on my truck (complete with an external bridge rectifier system which they now seem to have discontinued). It's been on the truck for over two years now (>40,000 miles), and never had a single hiccup.
However, if I were to do it all over again, I would buy from Nations. They have a 190 amp unit which is a true plug-n-play upgrade that requires no shims or bracket grinding. I've been running one of those on my wife's Excursion for about two years now, and never had a hiccup from it either.
The only reason I would go back with Nations instead of DB is that the installation of the DB unit was more complicated because the larger case did not fit without shimming/grinding. Functionally, I would rate them equal at this point. In terms of Customer Service, I've not needed it from either, but I have spoken to the folks at each company several times while pursuing my decisions to buy, and I walked away from my Nations experience with a better impression.
Now, as to your question and the alternator you linked... I can't really speak to it from experience. The price is attractive.
I think F350-6 has just installed a higher amp alternator from/for an 05 (modifications were required).
Guys please correct this post if it has mistakes.

You are correct. He had to do the exact same modifications I had to do when I installed the high output alternator from DB.
