Alternator Replaced
At the end of October my truck was having a hard time starting. It had been giving me troubles for a couple of months - batteries would go dead if I did not drive it daily.
I was able to back it into the garage and then it died. I got lucky as I got it into the garage with the nose out so that I could work on it.
I knew my alternator was shot. So...I jumped onto FTE and found some great advice on which alternator to buy. I ordered up an alternator from DC Power on November 4th. Unfortunately, I waited 4.5 weeks for it to be shipped and called them many, many times to get a status. Their customer service was pretty bad - no return calls, did not pick up, told me it would ship within the next 24 hours and then it did not, etc. But I held out as I figured I had nothing to lose but time.
Finally, 4.5 weeks after it was ordered the alternator arrived. 185 amp OEM with direct fitment. I got it installed the next Saturday - took me about 1 hour to install alone and it was very simple.
While the truck was sitting with no alternator, I had the batteries on a trickle charger to keep them fresh.
The truck fired right up and man, what a difference the new alternator makes. Lights are brighter and starts are immediate. I can tell the difference between the 110am OEM and the 185amp from DC Power.
The DC Power unit is awesome. Their customer service is not so great, but their product is worth the wait.
All ended well...glad to say.
