I've been trying to source an electric choke kit locally and no one seems to have one. Napa says they're obsolete and no longer sells them. The carb is the 4-barrel Holley that came on my 390. The little stove pipes for the choke are broken and I don't really feel like getting new ones, i'd rather just get an electric one, or even a manual one. Anyone know where kits can be had for these? I searched summit and jegs but got frustrated with their catalogs and quit...
I got the manual kit from O'Reilly's, used a manual choke cable with bezel from a '67 F-100. Mounted it in the cigarette ligher hole of the '79 F-150 dash. So now it looks completely factory original and even says "Choke"! Now for the great part: The '79 351M 2V carb has a cold choke 2 stage "ramp" that gives you high RPM when the choke is pulled out. But also keeps the RPM up as you open the choke to a certain point. As you open beyond that point, the RPMs drop to warm idle setting. So the manual choke gives you a sort of hand throttle option for fast idle if you want to use your pickup to charge the battery on another, or if you want to run at a fast idle for whatever reason.
Pretty handy and you never have to worry about the choke sticking again. Oh, and your wife will have a handy place to hang her purse, if you don't mind black exhaust smoke
