Time to Tinker

Hey all, new to the forum but wish I had found it years ago. I have a '92 F250 7.3 IDI with about 75,000 Miles. She is in great shape except for the usual paint issues. I maintain it religiously, but would like to start trying to get a little more power out of her. Other than the obvious banks turbo kit, what suggestions do you guys have for aftermarket parts. I don't expect to race it, but just like to have her running at full potential. Thanks!

Turbo is always going to be your best bet. If you keep an eye out on ebay, craigslist, and the classified sections on forums like this, you can pick up used kits pretty reasonable.

Thanks Mike. Is there any other option to the banks kit? Such as a used turbo from another model year or vehicle?

free flowing exhaust, free flowing intake, turbo of some sort, quality injection pump, & quality injectors and you will be doing good. the'94 model year trucks came with an ats 093 turbo from the factory. those would work with your truck along with a couple other ats turbo models, hypermax also makes a nice kit from what i have heard.

Banks, ATS, Hypermax or build your own. Type4 has a few ATS kit leftovers if your interested in building your own. Also check out idiperformance.com An intercooler would also help make the most of whichever way you choose to go. Dont forget guages either.

Great, thanks for the ideas. Just put a k&n in yesterday, and Unfortunatly just built a new exhaust system for it and matched the stock system except with magma flow. Maybe have to rebuild this summer. I will have a look for some of those kits you mentioned. I would love a banks kit but not in the budget. Thanks again for the help!

There are only the turbos from the big 3 (Hypermax, Banks, and ATS) for these engines. You can usually find them for a decent price used or you can weld your own kit if you have the ability. If you weld your own, you will have a bigger variety for your performance needs and different turbos will usually provide better performance for these engines. It just all depends on your end goals and what you want as far as performance goes...
