Good job. Keep with it. Promise no Stealership for the truck. We can fix anything on this truck except the g.e.m. Now my Prius is a whole different ballgame.
Sorry guys for taking so long to get back to this. I really intended to get to the bottom of this yesterday but, I woke up with the whole side of my face swollen with not one but two toothaches plus a bad stomach ache. I guess I should of asked my wife how long those hot dogs had been in my shop fridge before I ate them Saturday. LOL. Anyway, I felt much better today and went down to the shop and JACKPOT!! I found the problem. I kept wiggling the plug on the pass side uvhc with no luck. No matter what I kept getting the same readings. I checked the harness from the outside plug on the vc gasket back to the 42 pin plug and had good continuity. HMm.. checked the pins on both side of the vc gasket, good. Checked the harness from the vc gasket to the injectors, good. WTH. Finally I plugged the uvch back into the vc gasket and held it tight and twisted up on it while my bud ohmed it out at the 42 pin plug again and Bingo! Turns out that the uvhc female plug is so worn out and sloppy it just doesnt make good connection any more.
I still have a concern tho. I always heard that one of these engines would run on one side, even with one uvhc completely unplugged. Albeit very poorly. My truck didn't do that. It seemed to run ok, just not very long. Start then die, start then die. Is it possible I may still have another problem? I guess we will find out when the parts get here.
Are you gonna get it done during Christmas week? Did you get your pigtail ordered and do you have all your heat shrink? Hope your health is back to 100% and you are able to get it done soon. It is sooooo nice to have a healthy running body and truck. Merry Christmas. I will be very busy with the shutdown at the tire factory for the next 5 days and the 4 days following that back on nights. It pays the bills and then some so I really can't complain.
Well, the guy on the 3 legged shetland pony from pony express finally showed up with my parts. I got the uvhc's installed with the new vc gaskets, put in new glow plugs and put the covers back on. Hooked all the wiring back up and hit the starter. It fired right up and purred like a kitten. I was amazed at how smooth and quiet it ran. After about 30 seconds the SES light went off by itself. I let it idle for about 30 minutes and it ran flawlessly. I don't remember it ever being this quiet or smooth in the 50k miles that I have had it. I'm gonna go put the new boots on and button everything back up in the morning. Seems like it's fixed. I will know for sure when I test drive it tomorrow.
I want to give a hugh thank you to all the guys that have been a great help with this.
I will probably be starting a new thread tomorrow as my next project is to figure out why my esof is not working.
Esof is probably vacuum operated hubs not working. I don't have 4wda but I know a lot of guts put on warn hubs and plug the vacuum line. Great job. You saved thousands.
Great job! ESOF is a lot easier than UVCH and injector O-rings. I just pulled the hubs today to service them and they're all good. I've had problems with vacuum leaks in the past, but there was nothing expensive there.
Thanks guys but my esof problem is electric. I just went thru the front end back in the summer. Brand new hubs and vac hoses. Had it working great. About 3 months ago the transmission went out. When I got it back from the shop no 4wd. Turn the switch and nothing happens. No light, no tcase shift. I have done a quick check of the fuses, plugs and relays with no luck. Now it's time to get serious about finding the problem.
