external transmission filter
i was a proud owner of a 2005 f150 for 7yrs hurricane sandy decided to end that when a big maple tree took us out while driving home walked away with not even a scratch can't say the same for my 150 now i have purchased a 2008 f250 5.4l with 98000 miles on her the external filter on the tranny must be original because it looks like i could put my finger through it it's so rusted i purchase a new one on amazon looking for info on how to change both internal and external filters and fluid

Good thing you are OK after that tree.
The internal one is more of a screen. However checking the magnet
in the pan is not a bad thing to do. I know on the 6.0L diesels
the filter is a cartridge and you reuse the cover. And the love to
be stuck in place. Most of the guys like to take a socket and an
impact wrench and give then a little pop so that they don't twist
all the lines and the bracket that hold them.
