Finally got my chip back and put it in for a ride. Its a lot better, he got rid of a lot of the problems, it ran good. The stalling when you put it in gear, the falling on its face between shifts, smoother idle, etc. My boost is still only 36psi but oh well, I guess I can't have everything. The big test comes tomorrow, 350 miles with the 5er, I'll let you guys know.
Who ever reads this, I want you to do me a favor. Rich is the one who retinned my PCM. He has done a lot of this work in this area and told me to send it up to him. He got it right back to me in great shape. The favor? REP, REP him lots. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!!!!!!!
Good to here thats out of your hair Glenn. Mr. Rich is the man!
Besides losing my turn signals and the p/s cap all went well. It pulled very hard with EGT's under control. I could get them up to 1300 but it would have to be a hard, hard pull. I could go along at 70mph with 20psi boost and stay at 1200 EGT's, a big improvement over the mule. My temp gauge is straight up and down and my installed gauge says 210*-220*, a little hotter then I like but I couldn't find a short stem thermostat under 192* for the IH WP so that's what is in there. The trans stayed at 160-183*, the 183* was against a strong head wind and it was working hard. Oil temps were 210-220*. I was fun merging onto a freeway, I could run the boost up to 30psi and the trans shifted great. There is still some bugs to work out and my wife still thinks its noisy but oh well, you can't have everything! LOL
Thanks everybody for hanging in here for me, sure is great getting all the help I got!! Thanks again Rich for fixing my screw up, LOL!!
Sweet! That's what I was hoping to hear Glenn. Sounds like you've got yourself another locomotive! And those EGT's are without the coolingmist system correct? If you put that on there you could probably run ***** to the wall without having to worry about the EGTs!
I'm curious too Glenn, how different is the ride between the Mare and the Mule? I would think going to a dually crew cab would give it a much more "planted" feeling with that load in tow. Can you tell a big difference?
Thanks Bill, Aaron & Darin. Nate, I didn't put the coolingmist on, don't want to have trouble with that. The ride is more stable, I wouldn't say night and day different but its more like being on rails, LOL.
Todd, the smile is there until I see my fuel gauge drop. It used more fuel then the mule.
Thanks Mike, seemed like it took forever to make this run but now I know.
Jose, the power steering cap disappeared on me. Luckily I had a big plastic cap that comes with stuff that keeps dirt out of something that fit in there perfect. Its still leaking but will work for now. At this camp site I only have one bar on the cell phone but I'm trying to download a picture.
Oh, I bet you can't wait to pull for 48 footer Darin

Picture just came thru.
Oh, now I understand what p/s means. Thanks. The pic is wonderful, but we need MORE. IMHO the mare looks better towing the 5er than the mule (poor mule), but I think is most for the similar combo color and more proportionated between them.
Man that thing looks good Glenn! The way the truck and camper match each other, it really looks sharp!
If you need a new PS cap, I may be able to locate one for you I think I still have one pump which should have the res and cap with it. Just PM me and let me know where to send it if you need it.
Your setup is a real nice looking combo, it looks to me like the mare and 5er match real good I don't think I would worry very much about mileage yet ya need a few more miles to get a good average and IIRC you said you were dealing with some head winds. You will probably still have quite a few little bugs to work out but it sure look like your way over the hump now
WOOT! Santa's sleigh is up and running!
I agree that the size of the truck/paint scheme look like a better match for your 5er than the mule.
Would look DANG secksy if it were metallic blue..
