So I did some research on the forums and did not find what I was looking for. I want to wire up a kill switch to one of the existing Aux switches. I have a diesel and I was wanting to wire it up for the ignition system. I am fairly competent with mechanics but not with electronics, please any info would help!
To interrupt the starter, you'd need a high-amp relay under the hood
since the cranking AMPs would over-whelm your 30-amp switch.
But, messing with the thicker cables to the starter is a PITA.
The 6.0 has a fuel pump cut-off behind the pass-side kick panel.
Routing the circuit via your up-fitter should be easy, but somebody
would still be able to ruin your battery/starter trying to get it started.
It only handles a few amps (or less).
This is on my "to-do" list someday.
You don't need a high amp relay to disable the starter just open the lead that pulls the starter solenoid. Just grab the lead coming from the key switch.
Or you can go after all three. FICM relay,Fuel pump relay
and the line to the starter solenoid. But just doing the FICM relay will do what you want.
Yes they can crank it but it won't start.
