So, one of my co-workers bought himself an early 99 F350 a few weeks ago. Truck runs great and he loves it but there is one issue pissing him off. The keyless entry system seems to go to sleep over night. Basically, if he gets out of the truck, locks it with the keyfob, and comes back a few hours later, the keyfob will not open the door. Quite the pain in the *** as the moment seeing as the ignition and door locks are not keyed the same.
Standard Ford keyless entry system on the truck. No power drains.
mine does the same thing, kind of like it wont get reception then bam it works fine. I replaced the battery in the fob and no change. The fob works from an extraordinary distance too. I figured it was just a crap system...
Been busy with work. Life. My own PSD issues. Etc.
So, the key fob battery is good to go. No issues with it.
Here's the kicker. The problem only occurs if the key fob has not been used within 24 hours. Almost to the minute. Any time he uses the fob within 24 hours, no problems. One day goes by, it's useless.

Thoughts?
Don't know if this will help, but maybe by narrowing down the problem even more, the answer may become more apparant.
Can he leave the truck unlocked for 24+ hours and see if the fob will lock it? (vs. the normal won't unlock at the 24 hr mark.) This will help determine if ALL rf transmissions are being ignored, or if it is just the unlock ones.
Can he leave a window down, and the fob fails, see if the power door lock button inside works? (Is the issue the rf receiver sleeping, or the door lock sleeping?)
Does he have a 2nd fob to see if it is particular to that fob? I bought a 2nd off of eBay and programmed it using instructions they provided. Don't know if that worked back in 99.
FIXED. I don't like to leave threads hanging, even if they are simple, no brainer fixes.
Buddy took his keyfob apart and found some components inside that were loose, specifically around the battery contacts. A quick fix with the soldering iron and everything is working 100%. Thanks for all of those who provided input.
