I just got an 08 F-150. No key fob and no power locks but it does have what appears to be an anti-theft device that blinks on the top of the dash. I would like to have keyless entry. What steps should I take?
you mean a keypad? No, there isn't one. I'm just wondering if it even has a keyless entry receiver since it doesn't have power door locks. I guess maybe the dealer could tell me but didn't know if there was an easy way to find out myself.
The blinking light is just for the starter kill that works off the chip in your programable key. It does not have anything to do with the optional keypad or key fob.
what i did with my STX without power locks is that i got a cheap set of power door lock actuators and a keyless entry kit, i mounted the door lock actuators in the door panels and ran the wires through the rubber boot that goes between the truck body and the front door. I then hooked up the door lock actuators to the keyless entry kit that i got, and wired it all up under the dash on the drivers side. At that point i had keyless entry power locks. This was the alternative to replacing door panels with ones with door locks and wiring everything. I would research the door lock actuators and the keyless entry kit that you get before trying to put it in just to make sure the kit has the right out puts as far as polarity goes and make sure you know how the actuators work and get wired. I had a two wire actuator and a keyless entry kit, one wire on the actuator required a positive jolt while the other was grounded to unlock and vise versa to lock, so i had to get some special relays that were grounded until they were activated so that a postive jolt could be sent to each side while the other side was grounded. Something like that, its was a while ago, but just make sure you research before you do anything.
My dad has a Super Duty that he bought with the keyfob missing, and the stealership wanted over 500 bucks for it, he had a local automotive electronics shop install a kit from avital for under $200. According to him it works great.
