Did you check to see if you already have keyless entry? To check simply turn your ignition to the run (not start) position 8 times whithin 10 seconds, if you have a keyless entry system your locks will cycle (lock and then unlock).
I've only had the truck a week now and I am fairly certain it does not have the keyless entry system but I will try the chech you have suggested, thanks!!
$250.00??? Where are you looking for an alarm system at? Or is that installed also? I bought my Bulldog Pro-Series 7002 alarm system way cheaper than that. Now installing it will be more fun than one person should have. But think of the excerise the grey matter will get that week....overload is more like it. But with the anti carjacking feature the insurance company will give me a $ break. I have found some good deals at JC Whitney Trucks since I have started doing my up grades to my truck. Save a buck here is always a buck more for the next project.
250$ installed is a little much also. Basic alarms are quite simple to install if you can read a wiring diagram, and most have the keyless entry feature. Before you get ripped off look at the instructions of an alarm and see if it is something you can handle and save the money.
If the only feature you are looking is keyless entry and you already have power locks check out jc whitney on the net or call 1-800-529-4486 they have keyless entry systems dirt cheap and vvvveeeerryyy easy to install. I bought a 4-door kit and installed on a work van (constant in-and-out, lock-and-unlock to much for me) only took about 2 hours from start to finish, and only set me back 80 bucks. If you have questions their tech line is great, had only one prob with mine, if you hit lock they unlocked, and if you hit unlock they locked! called tech line, switched two wires, and presto! WORKS GREAT!!! Now all the other Techs are envious! HEHEHE Oh well!

My truck has stock power lock doors, and when I bought the alarm system I also bought the power lock tail gate system (easy to install) works when you lock and unlock your doors. You can also double lock your tail gate with the key so that it will remain locked by key even if the doorlock are unlocked. I like the power lock tail gate, especially since I have heard that leaving your tailgate unlocked can get your tailgate stolen..Go fugure..guess if they can't steal the whole truck a piece will do, kind of like the difference between having the whole dollar or a just some change. GEEZE

Reason: adding info.
Let's say that you DO turn the key to on 8 times in 10 seconds and the locks cycle? That means that you have the keyless entry already, but what if you don't have the key fob? Where do you find these?
On the 97 you cycle the key 5 times not 8. The later models cycle 8 times. If you cycle it 5 times ending with the ON position on the 5th cycle and the locks cycle then go to the dealer and purchase a remote and repeat the program procedure and then push any button on the remote then turn the key off and it will be programmed. If you get more than one remote do them all at the same time. Ive seen some selling on Ebay as well.
Thanks. I see a bazillion of them on ebay, but have no idea which one would work for my 97. Hopefully the dealer can help me out, though I'd feel bad not giving him the business then.
