I have a 2002 F250 with power locks, and I bought a couple remotes on ebay for keyless entry under the assumption that if you have power locks you have keyless entry. Am I wrong about that? Or is it possible that I have it and its not connected? Any help would be great.
Power locks and keyless entry are two different things , power lock -locks and unlocks the doors and if you have an alarm it will activte it , keyless entry is the key pad on the door where you can put in a code number and the door unlocks without the use of a key
ok, I'm refering to the little cordless paddles, not the codes on the door. lock, unlock, and panic button.
I think that keyless entry is a separate option that you had to buy as part of the "security group." I don't think that buying the remotes will automatically activate it since you will need the corresponding receiver and control box that activates the door locks. It might be built in, but probably not. Anyways, you can just buy an alarm system that will do the same thing (plus a lot more). I did mine for less than $150, and even wired up a tailgate lock actuator too (about $75).
When you buy a replacement (keyfob)keyless remote, you have to program them. If the truck was purchased with the Advanced Security Group, then it is programmable. I believe the Advanced Security Group was optional in the XL and XLT packages and standard in the Lariat package.
