Leaking CAC boot...

I've posted before regarding some oily soot build up on the CAC boot, Cold Side, top left of CAC and everyone said it was "Normal." If I recall one or two chimed in and said the dealer told them was perfectly normal.

I cleaned it off last time just with some mild detergent and a rag. I noticed it was building up again a few weeks ago then tonight, I noticed a black oily mark on my passenger side headlight. It was perfectly in line with the direction of the boot in question. After further inspection, I now noticed the oily build up on the screw threads on the hose clamps which was not an issue before.

So I'm obviously leaking fairly good there but how can I diagnose before taking to dealer? Visual inspection doesn't show a tear or split in the boot. Would it be safe to use some soapy water to detect for leak? Is there enough air flow during idle?

Thanks in advance.

It is safe to use some soapy water and see. It is also easy to put replacements on. Only way to get rid of the oily residue would be a CCV mod.

What if I'm already venting to atmosphere?

If you are already venting to atmosphere and still getting oily boots, you may have bigger issues. What is your oil level?

It's ALWAYS right at the full level. I check just about every fueling.

You have to check with the motor cold..preferrably after a cold soak over night to get an accurate reading.

At fueling all you are doing is verifiy that there is oil.

Well... I'm assuming on level ground too? My driveway has a good slope to it so that makes it tough.

Oil is a hair over full with front end up a little due to driveway slope. I pulled a sample for analysis. Coolant hasn't changed and last OA had <0.5% dilution. I haven't added any oil since last change. I'm wondering if the dealer is over filling?

something is a miss if you are making oil. Best to check it level. Even if you have the dealer do the change I'd verify the following morning.

Oil is getting changed now... I'll double check in the AM.

How else could I be making oil if I have virtually no fuel dilution and zero coolant in the oil?

With the CCV being vented elsewhere, what could the possible cause of the oil in the CAC be?

Left over residue from the miles you drove before doing the CCV mod? Take the intercooler off and turn it up in a bucket and see if a lot or any oil comes out.

Perfect solution. Think that maybe blowing some compressed air would assist as well?

I found this post on another forum that Scott participated in a few years back... Read through and you'll see where a tech references overfilled crankcase causing oil to get into the CAC.

Ill definitely be pulling the CAC ASAP and keeping a better eye on my oil levels correctly.

I just re-read that thread. I'd be concerned about the oil too.
