Unknown leak coming from the engine
The past week or so I have been experiencing a leak from the engine. I noticed the other day at work when backing out of my spot, there was a big stain on the ground. It looks like it may have been happening for a few days prior to me noticing that. I got home that evening and checked out the driveway, and sure enough there was a light colored stain on the driveway that looked to be a few days accumulation. I threw some cardboard underneath my truck that evening to see if I could see what type of liquid was coming out. It doesn't appear to be oil. It is not dark and doesn't have that consistency of oil.
Drove the truck around that Saturday and nothing. No leaks all day. So at night, I throw the cardboard back under the truck and wake up the next morning to more spots on the cardboard. Same thing happened on Sunday. Made an appointment of the local Ford dealerships and took it in last Wednesday. I get a call from them late in the day that they can't find a leak. They were watching it all day and nothing happened. I told them to keep it overnight and check in the morning. I get a call the next day around noon and they said nothing leaked out. So I go pick it up and bring it home. Put the cardboard underneath on Thursday night and woke up to no leaks on Friday. I put the cardboard underneath on Saturday night and Sunday night, and woke up the next morning to stains on the cardboard.
It has been really cold lately at night. I am thinking this has something to do with it. Also, back in December I had to have my water pump replaced. I am thinking this could be a combination of the two. Maybe the gaskets or connections in the water pump? So I am guessing the fluid I am seeing is coolant. It doesn't have the bright green appearance so that is what puzzled me at first.
Anyone have any ideas if it can be anything else?
I tried to get in an appointment at a different Ford dealer (the one I normally use), but they don't have any service appointments until end of the month. I have an extended service plan, that is why I am trying to get into a local dealer. Called the service advisor who was in charge of the water pump replacement asking if the leak and replacement could be related and if she could get me in anytime sooner than the end of the month.
If I am stuck until the end of the month, anything I need to do or watch out for until I can get it in?
This is regarding water pump replacement that currently has no problems. I'm about to replace alternator because I tested it and found bad diode/ diodes problem. I thought i might as well change water pump at the same time. My "O" ring (crappy design) was leaking about a year ago causing unneeded concern. I ended up wiggling the "o" ring connection and thereby resetting it and that fixed it for then and still now. I have a 2013 f150 5L. It's got 105k miles.
How long do these water pumps typically last?
I've never changed the Tranny fluid. Is this way over due?
I'm very new on here. Don't know where to post these type of questions yet.
Thank You!
